In a nutshell: Why is Bitway dropping today? BTW is giving back part of a parabolic rally that sent it to a record high on October 14. Traders are taking profits and closing leveraged bets, trading volume is falling, and two hotter-than-expected US inflation reports soured the mood this week. At 12:56 a.m. ET (4:56 a.m. UTC / 9:56 a.m. PKT) on October 16, 2026, BTW traded around $2.00, down about 13.3% in 24 hours, the worst drop in the top 100, per CoinGecko.

Why Is Bitway Dropping Today?
The short answer to why is Bitway dropping today: the token ran too far, too fast, and is now cooling off. None of the coverage we reviewed points to a hack or delisting. At our check, Bitway ranked #37 by market value (about $3.02 billion). Its 24-hour range ran from about $2.30 down to $1.80, and 24-hour volume was near $21.8 million (CoinGecko). CoinGecko’s coin page says that volume was down about 64.6% from a day earlier, and BTW sat about 27.6% below its $2.77 all-time high.
The drop stands out because the rest of the market was steady. In CoinGecko’s top-100 list at our check, only 17 coins were down over 24 hours. The next-worst performer, Stacks (STX), was off about 5.4%. Bitcoin traded near $81,975 (up about 0.5%) and Ether near $2,440 (up about 2.4%) (CoinGecko). Lypp’s tracker reached the same conclusion: Lypp called the move “a reversal of its own parabolic run, not a market-wide selloff.”
CoinGecko describes BTW as the utility and governance token of the Bitway ecosystem. The token is used for staking and governance across Bitway’s yield, payment and financing products, and CoinGecko lists it under DeFi, yield farming and the BNB Chain ecosystem. For background, see our guides to what is DeFi and how crypto staking works.
Main Reason: Profit-Taking After a Parabolic Run
Bitway’s gains came very fast. Even after today’s slide, BTW was still up about 38.8% over seven days and about 186% over 30 days at our check (CoinGecko). On October 14, CryptoPotato reported that BTW was up nearly 40% in a day and 250% in a month, at about $2.50 with a market cap near $4 billion. It added that analysts were openly discussing short setups and that BTW’s RSI had passed 80, a common sign of overbought conditions.
Yahoo Finance reported that BTW hit a record $2.75 on October 14 after a roughly 5,000% rally. Citing CoinGlass, it said nearly $2.9 million in short positions were liquidated in a single day, against about $543,000 in long liquidations. The same report noted that trading volume was weaker than during earlier rallies. CoinGecko records the all-time high at $2.77 on October 14 (UTC).
The selling started soon after the peak. TokenPost reported that BTW fell 22.24% to $2.02 in the 24 hours through 08:08 UTC on October 15, the largest loss among large assets. In that window, 80 of 89 large non-stablecoin assets declined, Bitcoin was down 3.17% at $81,324 and Ether was down 5.96%. Pump.fun was the next-biggest decliner on that list; we covered that token’s own drop in why Pump.fun is dropping.
What this means: When a token rises this fast on leverage, early buyers have large paper gains, and late short sellers have already been squeezed out. Once buying slows, profit-taking and falling volume can push the price down quickly, even while Bitcoin holds steady.
Other Factors Behind the BTW Drop
- Two hot US inflation reports. On October 14, the September Consumer Price Index rose 0.6% for the month and 3.7% over 12 months, compared with 3.6% expected (CNBC). On October 15, the Producer Price Index for final demand rose 1.3% in September and 6.3% over 12 months, the largest monthly gain since March 2022 (BLS PPI release). CNBC said both PPI figures beat economists’ forecasts. Bitcoin briefly fell below $80,000 on October 15 for the first time in about a month, then bounced back to around $82,000 (CoinDesk). For how the same macro shock hit another top-100 coin, see why Zcash dropped on October 15, and for a broader Bitcoin backdrop, see our Bitcoin price drop explainer.
- Which report gets the blame. CoinMarketCap’s CMC AI summary links BTW’s October 15 slide to the hotter CPI report, while Lypp points to the wholesale-inflation (PPI) print. Both reports came in hot. TokenPost’s 22% drop window closed before the PPI release (8:30 a.m. ET on October 15), so the early part of the selloff came after CPI.
- Thin and falling volume. About $21.8 million in daily volume against a roughly $3 billion market cap is a small turnover (CoinGecko). In thin trading, medium-sized sell orders can move the price a lot.
- Supply overhang. Only about 1.51 billion of BTW’s 10 billion total supply (about 15%) is circulating, which puts its fully diluted valuation near $20 billion (CoinGecko). Unlocks have moved BTW before. On October 5, BTW fell 32% from $1.46 to $0.993, a drop The Unhashed tied to a scheduled token unlock. Bitrue reported an October 2 release of about 101.62 million BTW as part of a monthly schedule that runs to 2030. For how unlocks pressure prices, see how token unlocks weighed on Rain.
- Concentrated holdings. CryptoPotato, citing CoinMarketCap, reported that the top 10 addresses control more than 96% of BTW’s supply. When ownership is that concentrated, the price can swing sharply in either direction.
- Rally helpers are fading. CMC AI credits part of the run to Binance Wallet Booster campaigns and a Bitrue spot listing on October 13. These one-off boosts can lift demand for a while, but they don’t last.
What to Watch Next
- Unlock calendar: Tokenomist lists the next scheduled BTW unlock for November 2, 2026. Trackers have disagreed on who receives past unlocks, so check more than one schedule.
- Volume and rank: Watch whether BTW’s 24-hour volume and #37 market-cap rank hold up on CoinGecko as the rally cools.
- Macro calendar: CoinDesk notes the Federal Reserve meets October 27–28. Further hot data could keep pressure on high-risk tokens.

FAQ
Did Bitway get hacked today?
The cited coverage shows no sign of a Bitway hack or exchange delisting on October 15–16. Reports describe a pullback after a record high, with profit-taking, leverage unwinding and hot US inflation data (CoinGecko, TokenPost, Lypp, CMC AI).
Why did BTW fall when Bitcoin was up?
At our check, BTW was down about 13.3% while Bitcoin was up about 0.5% and Ether about 2.4% (CoinGecko). That gap shows the selling was mostly specific to Bitway: traders are cashing out of a token that rose about 186% in 30 days.
How much of Bitway’s supply is unlocked?
About 1.51 billion BTW, roughly 15% of the 10 billion total supply, is circulating, per CoinGecko and Tokenomist. Tokenomist lists the next unlock for November 2, 2026. An unlock makes tokens transferable but does not force anyone to sell.
